ShopSmallSaturday2015_1Several of the Plymouth downtown merchants have joined forces for a “Shop Small Saturday” event in Plymouth on November 28th.

Understanding the difficulty of trying to compete with the big box stores on Black Friday, the Shop Small Saturday event was first observed in 2010.  A counterpart to Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Shop Small Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize the small, local businesses in their community.

ShopSmallSaturday2015_2Local business owner Brian VanDyne from Fernbaugh’s Diamonds and Fine Jewelry is leading the downtown merchants in a unique contest this Saturday.  It’s a Shop Small Selfie Contest.   Each participant can enter up to 11 times, once in each of the participating merchant’s shops.  You take a selfie INSIDE the store on Saturday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and then post the selfies on your personal Facebook or Instagram page.  The photos must be tagged #plyselfie.     If there are multiple people in the same selfie, post the photo on each person’s social media page.

One person, drawn at random will receive a prize package valued at $400 of gift certificates from the participating merchants while the second prize if for the most creative selfie.  That person will receive $100 in cash courtesy of the new Main Street Program in Plymouth.

Participating stores in downtown Plymouth are:  Retro Girl, King’s Jewelry, The Potters Pad, Na Rie Simple Treasurers, Fernbaugh’s Jewelry, Simply Thymes 2, Treats Squire Shop, A.S.K. For Flowers, Yoder’s Sports, Opie’s in the City Center and the Heartland Artist Gallery.
