Every year, more than 200,000 women in America will be diagnosed with breast cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.
The chances of surviving a breast cancer diagnosis are at their highest when cancer is detected in its earliest stages. To remind women throughout Marshall County of the importance of getting a yearly screening mammogram, the Saint Joseph Health System asks all women to remind their friends, family and loved ones to schedule a mammogram this October.
“Early detection is the greatest weapon we have in the fight against breast cancer,” said Dr. Stephen Anderson, chief medical officer, Saint Joseph Health System. “In addition to providing the newest technologies for women, we want to ensure that all women have access to mammograms, and have put programs and services in place to ensure convenience for women.”
Saint Joseph Health System urges women to talk with their family medicine provider about when they should schedule their mammogram.
To help spread the message the Plymouth Medical Centers’ entrances has gone pink throughout the month of October. Saint Joseph Health System will also encourage women through social media using #GetScreened.
The Brian and Paqui Kelly Comprehensive Breast Centers offers 3D digital mammography at Mishawka Medical Center, Plymouth Medical Center and Saint Joseph Imaging Center.
Women may also schedule their mammogram on the Mobil Medical Unit (MMU)..
