MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN – The Ancilla College softball team faced off against NJCAA #17 Muskegon for their second double header in two days, this time on the road, winning the first game 5-0 and losing the second game 8-0 in six innings.
After two one-run games yesterday, each team posted a shutout in today’s games. Muskegon takes the season series 3-1.
In game one, a two run home run in the third inning off the bat of Brittany Probasco was all the offense that pitcher Abbey Renner needed, as the Charger hurler held Muskegon to two hits while striking out five for the win. Tori Newsome belted a two RBI single for some insurance runs in the sixth and Renner picked up another RBI in the top of the seventh for the final run scored in the game. Probasco finished the game 3-4, while Brooke Stout, Renner, and Kayte Miller all finished with two hits each.
The Chargers allowed four unearned runs to start game two, meaning that Renner threw 13 straight innings without allowing an earned run. She finished the day with 13 2/3 innings and allowed just two earned runs. Muskegon added two runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to earn the split.
“It was good to get back on the winning track,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “We needed a better defensive effort in game two in order to compete.”
Ancilla (14-16, 7-10 MCCAA) travels to Lansing Community College (21-15, 17-6 MCCAA) for a three game series tomorrow starting atnoon.
