StarkeCounty_trainingLast week Starke County Law Enforcement Officers, EMT’s and firefighters attended training to administer Naloxone/Narcan at the Starke County Justice Center.

Drug overdose has become the leading cause of accidental death in the Indiana. Opioids are the most commonly abused prescription drugs and our heroin problem in Starke County has reached epidemic proportions.

The training also provided civil immunity to the first responders who use them to protect our community.

Naloxone works as a fast acting rescue measure to reverse the immediate effects of heroin and other opioids such as Vicodin, Oxycontin, Percocet and Morphine.

The training and Naloxone Rescue kits were provided by IU Starke Health, Porter Starke Services and Moving Starke Forward.
