Prom_Celebrate SoberWith Prom and Graduation season here, Starke County Sheriff Bill Dulin and Starke County Prosecutor Nick Bourff want to make sure Starke County youth are celebrating safe and sober.

It is illegal for someone under the age of 21 to possess or consume alcohol in Indiana, yet youth make up a significant proportion of drunk drivers causing traffic crashes on Indiana roadways. If you are under 21, your driver’s license will be suspended if you are caught driving with even a trace of alcohol in your system.

Consequences of drunk driving include jail time, loss of your driver’s license and higher insurance rates. Additional financial costs include attorney fees, court costs and potential loss of your job.

Prom should be celebrated as an alcohol and substance free event, which takes the combined effort of the School Corporations, the parents of the prom students, law enforcement officials and the citizens of the county to make this happen.

You’re going to remember your prom for the rest of your life, don’t be a statistic. Don’t Drink and Drive!!!
