Welcome back to schoolPlymouth Community School Corporation Superintendent, Dan Tyree recently sent a welcome back to school letter to students and parents of the corporation.

His letter said, “Our goal is to provide our students with the best education in Indiana.  We can only do this by forming a three-way partnership between the school, parents, and students.”  Having PHS students graduating high school prepared to go into an exciting career or gain entrance to the college or university of there choice is what they are striving for.

Tyree said many of the corporation’s  teachers have put in 45 hours of training this summer including work on curriculum, methods for teaching students with reading difficulties, project-based learning, use of adaptive learning software, and science curriculum (SLED) at Purdue University.

The PCSC maintenance staff has finished work on new security entrances at Jefferson Elementary and Plymouth High School with plans to add a new security entrance at Riverside Intermediate in August.  Tyree said, “We also have the funding and the plans to add new security entrances at Webster Elementary and Washington Discovery Academy in the near future.”  A new, whole-school generator has been installed at the high school and smaller units at the other schools will ensure that lights will remain on when schools are without electricity.

New Security Director, Ted Brown, and new School Resource Officer, Bridgette Hite, will provide expertise in student safety and security.  Security Director Brown will be organizing and training Crisis Prevention Teams in every school.

The Plymouth School’s transportation department has implemented a new program called Here Comes the Bus, which allows parents to track their student’s bus using their phone, a tablet, or a computer.  Tyree said, “We plan to push this program out in the fall before the cold weather hits.”
