Last week the Senate Committee on Veterans Affairs and the Military advanced three bills that provide support for Hoosier veterans.
The bills that passed out of Tuesday’s committee are:
- SB 298 – Provides for a voluntary veterans’ preference policy for hiring, promoting, or retaining a veteran in private employment.
- SB 262 – Increases the income tax deduction for military retirement or survivor’s benefits from $5,000 to $25,000.
- SB 424 – Requires the director of veterans’ affairs to designate a coordinator for the Hoosier women veterans program.
These proposals will now be considered by the full Senate.
Senator Randy Head said, “As a legislature, we will continue to help Hoosiers returning home after bravely serving our country.”
