Jogging for JEfferson 2015_1st gradeThe 3rd annual “Jogging for Jefferson” was a success at Centennial Park in Plymouth on May 21st! Although the weather was rather dreary and seemed to have struggled to make it into the 50’s – the conditions were prime for those who worked up a sweat completing as many laps as possible during their hour-long time outside!

Jogging for Jefferson 2015_2nd grade stretch“Jogging for Jefferson” is a fundraiser for the Jefferson Elementary School’s PTO. For the past two months, students raised funds by asking sponsors to contribute a tax-deductible donation to Jefferson PTO. The donations are being used to purchase a sound system for the cafeteria; a projection screen for the gym, PTO sponsored events, and classroom resources.

Jogging for Jefferson 2015_fire truckThis year’s goal was goal was $8,000. Principal Angie Mills said this year students raised a little more than $5,000. She said she is truly thankful for the generosity of parents, relatives, and friends of Jefferson Elementary. All proceeds from this fundraiser will be used to directly benefit children’s educational experience.

Jogging for Jefferson 2015_MatthewParent Amy Hall came out to the event to cheer on her son Matthew at today’s event! She stopped to smile for a picture with her son who is 6 years old. Matthew is in kindergarten at Jefferson and took part in Jogging for Jefferson for the first time! Amy said he got out of bed today at 4:30 a.m. bursting with energy and talking about how excited he was for today to finally be here.

Jogging for Jefferson 2015 Mrs ShanksJefferson PE teacher Melissa Shanks who used a mega horn to start Jogging for Jefferson for each grade’s separate session said Thursday’s fundraiser is her absolute favorite! Shanks has been in education for the past 32 years. She said, “The kids aren’t selling candy, or eating fattening food to celebrate the success of their fundraising, but instead they are exercising – this is a great healthy event.”
