Triton_IAB Bank_1All third graders at Triton Elementary School were visited by Mandy Feehman and Joelle Schrader from the IAB Bank.  The bank offers a program to help elementary children learn about saving money.  During the program students were introduced to several terms such as income, delayed gratification, personal identification number, and balance.

Triton_IAB Bank_2Students also heard a story called “A Tale of Two Brothers.”  In this story two brothers really wanted to earn money to each buy a snow board, but only one brother was very good at saving money.  We enjoyed having representatives from the bank join us to help us learn a valuable lesson about our money!

Triton_STARS 2015Prior to the end of this school the STARS students at Triton Elementary who had the most improved composite reading scores were honored.    Keegan Slone (K), Alana Cowles(2), Andrea Ford(1), and James Dawson(3) (front row)Elijah Vaca(5), Alyssa Haines(5), Gabriel Nuss(4), and Luke Snyder(6) (back row).

Triton_SLEDThe final science lesson in Mrs. Strycker’s 3rd grade class at Triton Elementary was about the forces that change motion. Students were able to participate in several activities to learn how air, water, and weight can cause some odd and unexpected motion as we began to test objects in this unit of study.

Triton_SLED2For example, if we held a piece of paper near our chin it naturally wanted to hang downwards due to gravity.  When we blew across the top of the paper it began to rise because we had lessened the amount of force from downward pressing air by moving it quickly across the top of the paper.  Students also made whirligigs that had different sized wings to test the speed of their drop and determine if weight or blade length made a difference in flight.  After several different tests, we were ready to participate in an engineering design challenge to create a boat that would go as slow as possible.  That meant students needed to use what they had learned to create as much drag as possible and change a fast boat to a slow one!  We had some fantastic racers that used weight, air, and water resistance to try to hold back their boats!  Our class was very thankful to Mrs. Barber, our race master who started the boats for each race!  WAY TO GO THIRD GRADE!!!!
