Time Travler CampThe Marshall County Museum is offering an incredible summer experience for 20 students that are the first to register for the Museum’s first History Camp!  “Time Travel Camp” will be a hands-on history camp open to students entering the 3rd, 4th and 5th grades in the Fall of 2015.    This premiere event will take place mornings, June 16 – 19 (Tues. – Fri.) from 9-12 at the Marshall County Museum.  Each day showcases a different theme with many opportunities for education and exploration with a fun twist! “Train Tuesday,” “Wagon Wednesday,” “Trunk Thursday” and “Fast Friday” will be packed full of vintage activities, interesting speakers with amazing stories, old-fashioned games and fun in every corner of the museum!   A new adventure in history will unravel each day as campers travel back in time!

During Train Tuesday, students will learn about the evolution of rail transportation from the invention of the steam engine through the development of high speed rail, enjoy hands-on activities in the model Train Room, make their own “Hobo Pack” and get a first-hand glimpse into what it was like being a railroad tramp.  Wagon Wednesday will be spent going back to the early pioneer days as homesteaders making critical decisions about leaving on the wagon train. The children will play games that traveling pioneer children would play and will create and eat snacks that would have been eaten on a wagon train.  Trunk Thursday will give children an appreciation for managing their daily lives with artifacts from different eras pulled out of an old trunk.   Then they will have to explore the different rooms in the Museum to locate and identify the artifacts.  They will hear stories from A Home in the Woods, real stories about pioneer days in Indiana.  Fast Friday will be a day full of surprises!  Starting in the Museum’s Transportation Room, the kids will learn about how Marshall County grew around the 5 historic highways and bi-ways that intersect our county and about Carl Fisher, founder of Lincoln Highway and the Dixie Highway and built the Indianapolis 500.  Weather-permitting an outing to River Park Square will be a fantastic finish to Fast Friday and conclude the activities for the first ever Time Travel Camp at the Marshall County Museum!

The cost is $25.00 for 4 days of camp.  Applications for the Time Travel History Camp can be picked up at the Marshall County Museum, 123 N. Michigan St., Plymouth or if you have any questions, call 574-936-2306.  Registration is limited to the first 20 students that fill out an application and register to attend the camp.
