LANSING, MICHIGAN – The Ancilla College softball team lost three games over the weekend to Lansing Community College by scores of 5-2, 14-0, and 3-0.

The first game, a rescheduled game from earlier in the season that was supposed to be played at Ancilla, saw the host Stars take advantage of two Ancilla errors to the tune of five unanswered runs spread over the third and fourth innings. Lansing took a no-hitter through 5 2/3 innings when Abbey Renner broke it up with a two run home run, in what would prove to be Ancilla’s only runs of the day. The Chargers followed up the home runs with hits from Kayte Miller and Tori Newsome, but they were left on base.

In game two Ancilla gave up eight more unearned runs on their way to a 14-0 loss in five innings. Renner broke up the Lansing perfect game in the top of the fifth with a single. Newsome picked up a hit in the fifth, as well.

Back-to-back triples and an Ancilla error to lead off the game for Lansing in game three led to their first two runs of the game. Only one ended up being earned. An insurance run in the fifth completed the scoring at 3-0. Allena McElfresh broke up the Lansing perfect game to lead off the seventh inning. Brittany Probasco also picked up a hit in the inning for the Chargers.

“It was not our finest hour,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “Our defense let us down throughout the day and their pitching was phenomenal. It’s tough to lose three in one day, but we need to bounce back next week and be prepared to compete.”
