Despite the drizzly weather on Halloween Day Miller’ Assisted Living Facility treated between 500 and 600 people who paraded through the downstairs hallways during the annual Community Trick or Treat.
“This is the largest crowd we’ve had so far,” stated Anna Corbett Miller’s Marketing Director. “As a matter of fact I hate to admit it; we did run out of candy toward the end. Thankfully I had a couple boxes of individually wrapped cookies that I opened and we were able to offer those to the last of the trick or treaters who came through!”
The Miller’s facilities have offered indoor trick or treat for many years. It is a win-win situation for the community. The residents enjoy passing out candy and seeing all the children in their costumes and the parents are happy to have a safe, warm environment for their children to go trick or treating.
“It’s only one hour of trick or treating,” explained Activity Director Cindy Flagg, “yet it takes an organized staff to accomplish making sure the event runs like clock work. Thank goodness for volunteers who are willing to come help keep the candy buckets filled at all times. We couldn’t do it without their help!”
The trick or treaters are invited to begin at the Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing facility and then they travel out the East door and go over to the assisted living. There they enter the West door and travel through the hallway and out the Main entrance. While the children are walking through the hallway, residents line the hallway with buckets of candy. Each resident gives each child a piece of candy. And that’s a lot of candy! One volunteer asked what would be done with the left over candy. She was assured there would be no candy leftover!!
Miller’s Assisted Living would like to thank the Kiwanis Club for their donation of candy and they would also like to thanks the volunteers and staff that helped make Halloween 2015 a success.
