Regina Emberton, President of the Michiana Partnership of the Regional Cities of Northern Indiana Initiative updated committee members on projects that were not selected for inclusion in the Regional Development Plan
The Regional Cities of Northern Indiana steering committee has been working hard to review and prioritize all project that were submitted in order to develop the strongest application possible as they complete for the $42 million dollar grant available from Indian Economic Development Corporation. They reviewed a variety of criteria related to the state’s guidelines to determine which projects were aligned with the identified success factors – Density, Connectivity, Amenities and Productivity. They also reviewed how each project aligned with the common regional themes that emerged during the Northern Indiana planning process – University Connections; Access and Connectivity and High Performing Communities.
The following projects submitted from Marshall County community leaders were not identified as projects to be included within the formal Northern Indiana Regional Development Plan that will be submitted to IEDC.
Laundromat, storm shelter and climate controlled storage,
32 lot and home expansion of Colonial Court Mobile Home Park
Purchase of land for future industrial park
200 Bicentennial Trees
Enviro Kiosks
Culver Lake Shore Drive midblock crossing
Lake Maxinkuckee Trail and the
Culver Shell Building.
Emberton said, “While they are each important initiatives that we hope are implemented, they would be a better fit within a city or county effort; or within the MACOG CEDS plan.”
In addition to regional projects like the Metronet and Urban Housing Loan Fund, the following Marshall County projects are still INCLUDED in the plan.
Project Lead the Way
Plymouth and Culver Entrepreneurship Center/Business
Job Training Center
Plymouth Aquatics Center
Plymouth Tennis Courts and Park Pavilion expansion and restoration
Marshall County Trail System
Marshall County Infrastructure Development
Marshall County Manufacturing Shell Buildings
Boys and Girls Club Clubhouse and
Marshall County Neighborhood Cooperative
This list of projects are being prioritized with the projects from Saint Joseph and Elkhart county’s projects, and may or may not receive funding in the first round of the grant. Emberton noted, “They do meet the criteria so will be included in the submittal.”
