towingParking issues raised by a downtown businessman last month may have lead to the modification of the City of Plymouth’s Parking Ordinance.

After much discussion on the policies currently in place, the proposal to impound vehicles that violate the parking restrictions and don’t pay their tickets could have their vehicle towed.

The current penalty for over-time parking in the downtown area is $2 for the first 24 hour violation.  After 24 hours the fine shall automatically increase to $5.  For a second violation within 30 days of the first offense, the fine shall be $25.  For a third offense within 30 days the fine is $50.

The proposed amendment increases the third offense in 30 days to $100.  The amendment also addressed violators who don’t pay their parking tickets.   If any owner has at least 2 unpaid tickets for violating the city’s parking regulation and is issued a third parking violation their vehicle shall be subject to removal by towing and being impounded until the registered owner pays all unpaid tickets, the towing fee and storage fee.

The City Council heard the ordinance amendment on first reading and will consider second reading at their next meeting September 14th.
