Jackie_Walorski_officeWASHINGTON D.C. – Representative Jackie Walorski (IN-02) issued the following statement after co-sponsoring legislation that was introduced Wednesday to combat opioid and heroin abuse epidemics across the U.S.  According to Trust for America’ Health, Indiana has the 17th highest drug overdose rate in the U.S.

This issue doesn’t just affect one person or one family, it affects the livelihood of an entire community,” Walorski said. “I am committed to working to reduce the number of painkiller and heroin overdose deaths across the U.S. It’s time to put an end to this epidemic once and for all”

The legislation, sponsored by Rep. Susan Brooks (IN-05) and Rep. Joe Kennedy (MA-04), will provide new guidance and best practices to members of the medical community, reauthorize prescription drug monitoring programs (PDMP) critical to local law enforcement efforts, increase access to life-saving Naloxone and raise public, provider, and patient awareness of opioid drugs.

Walorski represents the 2nd Congressional District in Indiana, where she serves as a member of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, House Armed Services Committee, and House Committee on Agriculture.
