Jackie-Walorski_pink_shisrtU.S. Representative Jackie Walorski (IN-02) issued the following statement after the announcement earlier Tuesday that the Regional Cities of Northern Indiana, an alliance representing 22 cities and towns and more than a half a million people in Elkhart, Marshall, and St. Joseph Counties, will receive up to $42 million in state matching funds to support regional development plans in North Central Indiana:

“I offer my sincerest congratulations to the leaders from Elkhart, Marshall, and St. Joseph counties who worked tirelessly to show the rest of Indiana their vision for our region’s future,” Walorski said. “Now, community officials and local businesses can work together to promote partnerships and provide future generations with high-performing communities. Congrats again on a job well done.”

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation Board of Trustees on Tuesday selected three regions – northeast, north central and southwest – to receive the $42 million each in Regional Cities funding.

The Indiana Regional Cities Initiative sets a framework for neighboring communities across the state to work together to develop regional visions that are supported by compelling strategic plans focused on quality of place. The initiative will help each region develop a positive and unique national brand to advance the goal of becoming a destination for talent.
