JackieWalorski_veteran's affairsWASHINGTON, DC – In an effort to discuss solutions and reforms in providing health care to our nation’s finest, Rep. Jackie Walorski (IN-02) attended the “Fixing Veterans Health Care” summit today in downtown Washington DC.

The event, sponsored by Concerned Veterans for America (CVA), was created to isolate existing challenges to veterans’ health care, identify systemic solutions, and propose concrete reforms that would dramatically improve health care provided to veterans. Recent reports have linked Veterans Affairs (VA) patient care problems to widespread mismanagement within VA facilities, including preventable deaths at VA medical centers nationwide.

“If we are going to change the culture within the Veterans Health Administration, then today was a great first step in the right direction to improve the delivery of health care to our nation’s veterans. There’s still a lot of work left to do, but thanks to the leadership of CVA, I’m confident today’s report will produce some significant policy discussions in the coming weeks and months ahead,” Walorski said.

Walorski joined Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (HI-02) and Rep. Duncan Hunter (CA-52) on the Bi-Partisan View from the House panel. Other distinguished participants included Sens. John McCain (R-AZ) and Marco Rubio (R-FL), former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich, health policy experts, and veterans’ advocates.

The taskforce issued the final report at the policy summit and plans to work with reform-minded legislators to propose legislation to provide veterans with more choices to receive quality healthcare.

As a member of the House Committee on Veterans Affairs, Walorski has addressed multiple VA officials on several occasions about the serious problems surrounding the VA. She has worked on various issues involving veterans including veterans homelessness, VA facilities misuse of land and, more recently, working to lower the veteran suicide rate.
