WDA_MayorSenter_1Washington Discovery Academy 2nd grade students took a field-trip to the Plymouth Mayor’s Office on Thursday.

Mayor Mark Senter met with students in the Council Chambers and spoke about our local city government and our city history.

Kristin Flint, “The WDA second graders are learning about their community government, how government works, as well as learning about important people in the community. This project is also covering the history of Plymouth.”

The students asked Mayor Senter some great questions. Below are some of the questions and answers.

2nd Grade Student: “How old is the City of Plymouth?”

Mayor Senter: “142 years.”

2nd Grade Student: “How many Mayor’s has Plymouth had?”

Mayor Senter: “There have been 33 mayors.”

2nd Grade Student: “Are you like a king and are you rich?”

Mayor Senter: “No, I’m not a King. I have 2 kids in college which makes me not rich.”

2nd Grade Student: “Do you like being Mayor and what part of your job do you like the most?”

Mayor Senter: “I love doing what I’m doing right now with you. Hanging out with our kids of Plymouth.”

2nd Grade Student: “What did you do before you were a mayor?”

Mayor Senter: “I was a policeman and a detective for 28 years.”

2nd Grade Student: “I like the blueberries that are around the city. Do you?”

Mayor Senter: “I love the painted blueberries around our city and I’m glad you like them too. I also hope you like the splash pad that we put in just for all of you.”

2nd Grade Student: “Are you a Christian?”

Mayor Senter: “Yes, I am a Christian.”
