Mary Young and Mayor SenterAfter working for the Plymouth Police Department for 39 ½ years Mary Young dispatched her last calls on Tuesday.  A couple of officers even took the time to radio in a special message to Mary prior to her heading to a special retirement party at the Conservation Club House.

Mary Young retirement partyYoung was whisked off to her party with a police escort including units from the Plymouth Fire Department with lights and sirens blaring through downtown Plymouth on Tuesday about 1:45.

Hundreds a family members, friends and business acquaintances reminisced and congratulated Mary Young for her years of service to the citizens of Plymouth.

Mary Young retirement keyPlymouth Mayor Mark Senter read a proclamation that said, “Mary Young has dedicated the last 39 plus years of her life to this community and has a deep and genuine love of this city and country.”  The mayor also said, “From the beginning Mary brought a smile and a cheery laugh to the Plymouth Police Department.”  He also noted that she started on November 5, 1975 when Charles Glaub was mayor and Gerald Ford was president.  He spoke about the “big difference” Mary made in the lives of many people throughout the community, her caring, thoughtful and perky manner.
