Argos Schools signThe Argos School Board has a huge challenge in front of them with voters rejecting the referendum.

The referendum would have allowed the school to impose a property tax levy of up to 61 cents per $100 of assessed valuation for the next 7 years to make up for declining state revenue.

Voters in the Argos School District flocked to the polls.  Poll worker Robin Cupka who worked at the United Methodist Church in Argos said, “We were busy all the way through.  Even though we had 8 machines, at times people had to wait 20 to 30 minutes to vote.”

Once all the votes were counted, the No votes were 753 while the YES votes were 534.

Members of TASK, Taxpayers for Argos Schools and Kids told attendees during their public information session it the referendum failed they will have to consider cuts including staff and teachers and went so far to say they may have to seriously look at consolidation.
