The Bremen Chamber of Commerce and Bremen Police Department have invited the community to a Memorial Service on Tuesday, May 17th at 11 a.m. at the Bremen Police Department for National Peace Officer Memorial Week.
Bremen Chief Brad Kile said National Peace Officers Memorial Week is May 15th through May 21st. It was created to honor fallen law enforcement officer throughout the United States.
Last year approximately 123 federal, state and local law enforcement officers gave the supreme sacrifice and were killed in the line of duty. There were also 27 K-9’s killed in the line of duty. On average, 140 to 160 law enforcement officers are killed in the line of duty each year. The fatality rate for police officers per 100,000 is 18. To date this year there have been 36 police officers killed in the line of duty.
