After much anticipation, Bremen’s newest amenity is set to open on June 23rd.  Located just off Woodies Lane, southeast of Jane’s Park, the new off-leash dog park is sure to draw crowds.  The park, which will be named “Karen’s Bark Park” in honor of Karen Graverson’s 34 years of service to the Town of Bremen.  Within the fenced area, dogs will be allowed to play off-leash with their owners, other visitors, as well as other dogs in the park.

In conjunction with the Bremen Police department and the Bremen Parks and Recreation Department, the Bremen Chamber of Commerce is planning a doggie parade for the park’s grand opening.  The chamber is asking individuals wishing to participate in the parade to bring their leashed dogs to the parking lot near the new dog park by 6:15pm on June 23rd.  The on-leash parade portion of the event will begin at6:30pm and continue around the walking paths in the park.  After the walk all dogs registered with the Town of Bremen will be invited to try out the fenced off-leash dog park with their owners, and will receive their pass-codes the park’s locked gate.  There will be an opportunity that night for unregistered dogs to be registered by Town of Bremen personnel on site.  Owners are reminded they MUST pick up dog droppings while using the park, just like other places in town.

As with the rest of the park system, Karen’s Bark Park will continue to evolve over the summer and the next few years.  When it opens, the dog park will essentially be two fenced in areas (one for larger breeds and one for smaller breeds) for dogs to run and play.  A doggie drinking fountain, a concrete approach, and specialized waste receptacles are planned for later in the year.  In 2017, the parks department hopes to add obstacles and play structures  to the park as well.  Signage will be posted at the park to remind owners of acceptable behavior at the facility as well as the inherent risk involved with using the park.
