PLYMOUTH – Karen Carswell has been named the new varsity softball coach at Plymouth High School. Carswell replaces Haley Church who had been the head softball coach for the past three seasons.

Carswell was a 1974 graduate of the Culver Academy for Girls. She played softball for the Academy for three years. She then went on to Purdue University where she played softball for the Boilermakers for two years.

Carswell continued playing softball from 1978-1995. Several of those years she played for Delp Electric in Plymouth. She was part of two ASA Indiana State Champions in 1979 and 1981.

Carswell comes to Plymouth with 10 years of softball coaching experience. She previously coached ASA Travel Softball in Argos and Plymouth. She was also the JV softball coach for Plymouth in 1993 under Kevin Gardner.

Carswell has also been an IHSAA official for the past 26 years. She is licensed in volleyball, basketball and softball.

In 2006, Carswell was elected to the Culver Academy Athletic Hall of Fame for basketball and softball. She was the 7th female elected to this prestigious group since it began in 1994.

Carswell will soon be on the job organizing her staff for the upcoming season. The first official IHSAA practice date is March 7. The first scheduled game for the Lady Pilgrims is April 5 against Mishawaka at Centennial Park.
