MYRTLE BEACH, SC – There was little to write home about for Ancilla’s Chargers as they dropped two decisions on day one of their spring trip 13-1 to Onondaga Community College and then dropping a night game to #8 ranked Cumberland College 9-1.
The Chargers fell behind in the first inning in both contests and could manage just a single run in each game. In game two that run would come by the way of a solo home run by Caleb Heckaman (Warsaw High School) who also had a double in the game. Jade Doyle (Center Grove High School) had a pair of hits on the day including a double.
“(Caleb) Heckaman had a nice day at the plate and I thought that (Ryan) Slavey (River Forest High School) pitched a nice game two,” said Charger head coach Joe Yonto. “Jade (Doyle) had a real nice day at the plate for us.”
It wouldn’t be enough though as the Chargers struggled to put together any sort of momentum against either team.
“Errors. Two out runs,” said Yonto. “That put us in a hole that we couldn’t climb out of. We were fighting uphill all day.”
Slavey went four innings walked two and struck out two in game two taking the loss. Bryce Bustamante (LaVille High School) came on and pitched two innings giving up just one run. Jake Roberson (Whiteland High School) took the loss in game one.
The Chargers fall to 0-5 with a pair of games on Wednesday.
