The fireworks display at the 50th Annual Marshall County Blueberry Festival this year will be out-of-this-world thanks to a generous donation from the City of Plymouth.
During Monday night’s Common Council meeting Mayor Mark Senter brought the tabled request back to the board for action.
Three weeks ago the Blueberry Board of Directors attended the city meeting seeking a one-time donation of $25,000 for the biggest, baddest fireworks display.
Last year the festival spent nearly $39,000 for the fantastic fireworks display and with the additional $25,000 Phil Martin said the show will be about 45 minutes with more ground displays, special features and 50 airburst representing the 50 years of the Blueberry Festival.
Martin said they are looking at a number of new events for the 50th anniversary celebration including a water-log-rolling performance and a kid’s entertainment area on the pony league ball field at the front of the park with a radio-controlled miniature car racing track and more.
Funding for the one-time donation will come from the Mayor’s Promotion of the City line item. Shawn Grobe voted against the donation while Duane Culp abstained from voting because he serves as head of security for the festival.
