A public hearing was held Wednesday night during a special Common Council meeting for the additional appropriation of $25,000 to the Marshall County Blueberry Festival.
On March 14th the Common Council voted for the one-time donation to assist with a fabulous fireworks display celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Labor Day weekend event.
On Wednesday night the Common Council held a public hearing to move $25,000 from the General Fund to the Blueberry Festival.
Councilman Jeff Houin said he’s had lots of feedback since the March vote. He noted, his vote in favor of the donation was because of concern between the relationship the city has had with the Blueberry Festival the past couple of years.
Councilman Shawn Grobe said he would be voting against the donation again. He said he would rather put the money into sidewalks and streets. He was also concerned they city may be opening the door to many other requests.
The Plymouth Common Council voted 5 to 2 for the donation. Both Gary Cook and Shawn Grobe voted against the $25,000 appropriation.
