County News_logoThe interrogation room at the Marshall County Jail will get an upgrade and an additional one will be added following the unanimous approval of the County Commissioners to purchase an upgrade to the I-Record System.

Monday Marshall County Sheriff Matt Hassel and Prosecutor Nelson Chipman presented a proposal to upgrade the recording system with new high-definition cameras instead of the single camera system currently in place.  The proposal also includes creating a second interrogation room and connecting the breathalyzer area to the recording system.  A new feature will also allow the prosecutor to view live-time interrogations while in his office in the County Building.

Chipman discussed the science of body language and pointed out that the new cameras would be located so a person’s whole body could be seen during the interview session.

The up-grade will cost just over $18,000  with a portion of the funding coming from DEA forfeiture funds and the remainder being split by the Prosecutor and Sheriff, although Sheriff Hassel will need to seek an additional appropriation from the Special CAGIT.
