Complaints about the speed of vehicles driving on Plymouth LaPorte Trail were brought before the Marshall County Commissioners this week.

Laurie Baker from the County Highway Department said a citizen contacted both her and the sheriff about the 55 mile per hour speed limit between 5th and 6th Roads.

Sheriff Matt Hassel said signs near Swan Lake Golf Course post the speed at 45 mph but if a speed limit isn’t posted the speed limit is 55 mph.

Commissioner Kurt Garner suggested reducing the speed limit from 55mph to 45 mph from Queen Road to 4th Road.

Commissioner Deb Griewank said she felt making it a consistent speed would be best.

Commissioner Kevin Overmyer asked for a road count to see what speeds are and assist in justifying their final decision.

The County Highway Department will check to see when the most recent road count was conducted and then if necessary ask MACOG to conduct another count before a determination is announced.

Garner did comment, “the issue is, if people adhere to it.”
