County Building_2Marshall County Commissioner Kurt Garner appeared before the County Council on Monday seeking assurance of matching funds for the Community Crossing Grant opportunity being provided by the state for road projects. The commissioners has previously requested the recently released special distribution of LOIT funds be used as the new money for the match.

Garner said a list of individual projects is valued at just over $2 million will be presented with the application which is due the end of July. County roads on the list include Union from US 30 to Ancilla College, Elm Road from Lincoln Highway to 12B Road for the industrial area west of Bourbon, 7th Road east of the new US 31, Fir Road and Plymouth Goshen Trail north of US 6. Also on the list of projects is North Michigan Road from LaPaz south to the bridge removal that includes 4 lanes and sections of Muckshaw Road.

Commissioner Garner noted during the informational meeting last month it was mentioned that projects that have economic development impact would have a better chance of being awarded funds. He also it was also recommended not to submit bundle projects because the state wants to be able to select the projects they feel have the most benefits.

Council members gave their support to dedicate the special distribution of LOIT funds for the required grant matching funds.

Before Gardner left he reminded council members of the commissioners request for a million dollars from the rainy day fund to assist in 2016 road projects.
