Marshall County is ready to move forward with major road improvements thanks to receiving $1 million from the Community Crossing grant program.
During Tuesday’s County Commissioner meeting Jason Peters said he divided up the road projects between three companies hoping to get most of the work completed yet this year.
Roads selected for the grant money are those that are highly traveled in the county. Projects include a hot mix asphalt surface of 1 and a half inches on
Fir Road from the Bremen Town limits to U.S. 30. E & B Paving will complete the project for $591,848.
Walsh & Kelly will resurface Union Road from U. S. 30 to 9C at a cost of $119,509 and Elm Road from Lincolnway to U.S. 30 for $109,506. They will also resurface Muckshaw Road from the Plymouth City limits to 13th Road at a cost of $153,545.
Rieth Riley Construction will do a hot mix asphalt surface of 7th Road from Linden to to King Road for $143,774; Plymouth Goshen from State Road 6 to the County Line and Old U.S. 31 from the bridge removal project north to 2C Road for $199,376.
Peters told the commissioner the total projects came to $1,944,986.25 with a the million dollar grant and our $1 million match. That will leave the highway department about $55,000 for over runs or changes.
Peters anticipates some projects getting started in the next week or two.
