Museum_2013_Christmas_Exhibit Sports RoomThe Marshall County Historical Society has received a $30,000 Heritage Grant provided by the Indiana Historical Society and made possible by Lilly Endowment Inc. for the purpose of totally transforming the Marshall County Museum Sports Room! The new Sports Room, “County of Champions,” will become a major attraction that the entire county can enjoy. Visitors to the Museum will be able to experience a state-of-the-arts exhibit space that celebrates boys and girls high school sports from all eras and including every community in Marshall County.

Not only will the 28’ X 14’ space be aesthetically pleasing with local vintage sports memorabilia, better lighting and a hardwood gym floor, but it will be equipped electronically to support greater use of digital media. This means that guests will have access to vintage digital images, authentic video clips, sound bites and sports data at the press of a button! This second-floor area, accessible by either elevator or stairs, will be a central repository for sports artifacts from all over the county.

Help us make it happen! We are looking for Marshall County boys and girls high school team pictures, images that commemorate special events in county sports history, one-of-a-kind memorabilia and meaningful sports artifacts, as well as short, funny true stories. Plans for the room include vintage lockers and bench to simulate a gymnasium locker room; nostalgic scoreboards from local gyms; bleachers for viewing films and an area that remembers “Doc Fod.”

If you have something of interest, bring it into the Marshall County Museum at 123 N. Michigan St. in downtown Plymouth, or take a picture of it and email it to: mlangdon@mchistoricalsociety.org. Unfortunately, we cannot take all artifacts (no trophies please!), but if you have a particularly special piece of sports history that you can share with the community, please contact us at 574-936-2306.
