Forty-six teams competed, raising over $30,000 to benefit students at the 21st Annual Ancilla College Golf Classic at Swan Lake in Plymouth on June 13th, 2016. Golfers came from Indianapolis, Chicago, Ft. Wayne and Michigan, and one lucky golfer ~ Pete Peuquet from Bremen ~ snagged a hole-in-one, earning two round-trip tickets to anywhere in the USA from hole-in-one sponsor Oliver Ford Lincoln. Despite chiding from his fellow golfers that he was “picking the wrong club”, Peuquet sank the shot and is now trying to decide between Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard for his getaway.
Organizer Emily Hutsell, Development and Alumni Relations Manager at Ancilla College, was thrilled at the increased numbers this year. “We moved our event to Swan Lake last year because we had outgrown our previous location ~ what a great problem to have! ~ and it grew even more this year. The money raised goes to financial assistance and scholarships for Ancilla students. It takes a lot of effort from the students, staff and faculty to bring this all together…and the Sisters (Poor Handmaids of Jesus Christ) are always in charge of the weather, of course!”
A private institution, Ancilla College currently serves 473 students, 200 of which live on campus, and provides one of the lowest cost college experiences in Indiana. Still, 66% of their students can afford to contribute $5k or less to their own college costs, so these fundraisers provide a true opportunity for those with the least ability to afford the quality education provided at the campus. The event, held annually on the second Monday of June, is one of two major fundraisers for the college, along with the college’s “Changing Life” Scholarship Dinner scheduled for November 11th.
