The Plymouth Wal-Mart awarded Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry a $1,500 grant for its “Meat” the Need program. The funds will assist Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry covering the cost of processing for approximately 1,200 pounds of donated meat in Marshall County. The meat will then be distributed to area hunger relief agencies – providing almost 4,500 meals to county residents in need.
Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry encourages the donation of large game and livestock to their “Meat” the Need program. Hunters and farmers wishing to donate should contact participating meat processors in their area. They take their wild game or livestock in for processing and there is no charge to donors. The meat is processed, packaged, and frozen and local food pantries will be contacted to pick up and distribute this nutritious protein back into the community from which it was donated.
To date, Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry have 90 participating meat processors working in 85 counties in Indiana.
In the last five years, Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry have helped to distribute almost 540,000 pounds of meat to Indiana food banks, providing over 2.1 million meals to Hoosiers in need.
