Indiana Senate Republicans have made local road funding a top priority this year.
Senator Randy Head said, “Senate Enrolled Act 67 and House Enrolled Act 1001 work together to provide more than $1 billion in new state and local road funding over the next two years without raising taxes or creating new debt.”
HEA 1001 builds upon Indiana’s current road-funding sources by providing $326 million for state highways and creating the Funding Indiana’s Roads for a Stronger, Safer Tomorrow (FIRSST) Task Force to develop a long-term road-funding plan for the state.
SEA 67 provides a one-time distribution of $433 million to counties, cities and towns across Indiana for local road projects. An additional $72 million is given to schools, libraries and townships totaling $505 million in returned funds to local units of government statewide. These funds were recently distributed from excess amounts that had accumulated in local governments’ reserve accounts.
