Miller's_Shirley Morrow 2016Miller’s Assisted Living residents had a special “in-house” guest speaker at their monthly “Remember When” activity.  The group met on Friday, January 15th for a review of the recently published official bicentennial book, Indiana at 200: A Celebration of the Hoosier State.  Shirley Morrow is the proud owner of this book and was anxious to give a review and shared highlights from the book.

Morrow is proud of this book for several reasons.  Not only is she a born and bred Hoosier but also because her daughter-in-law – Barbara Olenyik-Morrow – wrote an essay that is published in the “Crossroads” section of the book.

During the “Remember When” session, Morrow showed pictures from the book and shared many highlights.   She read an article “What’s A Hoosier” and also shared a poem titled “A Good Place” by a former Indiana State Poet Laureate Jared Carter.  Other notes of interest pointed out by Morrow were Jug Rock in Martin County, The Linier Mansion, the life of James Whitcomb Riley, The Indiana State Song “On The Banks Of The Wabash”, a photograph by Marshall County’s own Felicia Batman, and much, much more.   The book is full of so much information and beautiful photographs and Morrow has offered to speak at of “Remember When” again in February.

Indiana at 200: A Celebration of the Hoosier State is a limited edition 248-page coffee table book.  It includes an introduction and 14 chapters, each opening with a short essay by a noted Hoosier, followed by photographs; quotes and anecdotes from Hoosiers of diverse ages, backgrounds and experiences. Sidebars that highlight unique and surprising facts about Indiana and its 92 counties are also incorporated.  This book may be purchased at the Marshall County Historical Museum in Plymouth.
