Heartland Artists Gallery welcomes new art that was painted or created specifically for this theme show. The show was conceived to share in the 2016 Indiana Bicentennial Celebration state wide. There is a year of celebration planned and a listing of all state-wide Bicentennial events happening, just visit http://www.in.gov/ibc/2352.htm for more information. Indiana: Past & Present at Heartland Artists Gallery is Plymouth’s first Bicentennial event we hope you will take the opportunity to share in it.

Heartland_Jayne JacobsonThe artists’ canvases were blank, and the theme was wide open to each artist what ‘Indiana Past & Present’ represented to them. Their memory or recollection became their work of art … whatever they envisioned, whether it be vintage, old-fashioned, life as it was or life as it is today. A grassy pathway used by generations of families on their homestead, the monument that reminds them of their family history, barns that aren’t there anymore, the favorite Ford truck, the farrowed fields on the farm or the covered bridge that stood the test of time. It could be the past that can still be seen or not seen, a part of Indiana’s history or a part of Indiana’s future. We are proud to present the area artists interpretation of this in the June show that will run from June 1 through June 30 at Heartland Artists Gallery in downtown Plymouth.

Judging will be done by all the artists who enter their art, each will be given a ballot and each will judge the show for the following awards: Best of Show, 1st, 2nd and 3rd. There will also be a ‘Popular Choice’ award that visitors to the show and the community can vote for their favorite.

There will be a reception open to all to see the Indiana Past & Present Show, cast your vote, share in some refreshment and meet the artists on the second Friday in June. June 10th from 5-8 pm at the Heartland Artists Gallery.

Heartland_Barbara DeLeu2016 continues to be a very busy year for Heartland Artists Gallery with a lot of art related to the Indiana Bicentennial Anniversary. The life-size bison sculpture arrived in Marshall County on May 30th and will be a part of the state wide art project. Heartland Artists will be painting the bison to represent the main historical places in Marshall County. The community will be able to view the artists painting it through the window at Marshall County Historical Museum on Michigan Street. The bison, when completed will be placed in front of the museum. Thank you to all the sponsors who invested in the bison for our community.

In July, Diane Overmyer will be the featured artist and in August Jennifer Dunville will be the featured artist. Friendship Quilters Guild will display their beautiful quilts in September at the Gallery. Heartlands 28th Annual Regional Juried Art Exhibit will take place in October and there will be an event for that Exhibit on Saturday, Oct. 8th – ‘Experience the Arts in Marshall County’. December’s Show will be art that shares the theme ‘A Year in the Life of Marshall County’.
