DONALDSON, IN – After a week off due to inclement weather, the Ancilla College softball team went back to work in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference splitting with Lake Michigan College, losing game one 2-1 and winning game two 2-1 in ten innings.
Abbey Renner struck out 13 in the game one loss, allowing just three hits and two earned runs in the complete game effort. Renner also added two hits on the offensive side and tallied the lone RBI for the Chargers. Ancilla scattered seven hits in the opener.
Lauren Prohl followed up with a game two performance that was not to be denied. Prohl threw all 10 innings, striking out eleven, allowed seven hits and no earned runs. Brooke Stout and Brittany Probasco had two hits each for Ancilla, who finished the game with eight hits. Probasco and Renner each had an RBI. Probasco’s came on a solo home run in the fourth and Renner’s came on a walk-off single to end the game in the bottom of the tenth.
Prohl, Kelsie West, and Morgan Lippens had two hits each on the day for the Chargers.
“Abbey and Lauren did a phenomenal job in the circle for us today,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “We were getting runners in scoring position, just not getting them in. Lake Michigan did a great job of holding us in those situations.”
Ancilla travels to NJCAA #9 Kellogg Community College (17-3, 9-1 MCCAA) today for a 3:30 start. They return home for a4:00 start against MCCAA West leader Lansing Community College on Thursday and a 3:00 matchup against Glen Oaks Community College on Friday to end their week.
