BATTLE CREEK, MI – Following a split in their opener of the week of Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Western Conference action, the Ancilla College softball team travelled to NJCAA #9 Kellogg Community College (17-5, 9-3 MCCAA) and came home with 6-2 and 12-3 victories.

 

In the first game, Tehya Henry racked up five RBIs on three hits for Ancilla (11-13, 6-4 MCCAA). She singled in the first inning, homered in the third inning, and doubled in the fifth inning. Abbey Renner got the win for the Chargers thanks to seven strikeouts. Renner allowed two earned runs, eight hits and no walks over seven innings. Renner also added two hits from the dish, as well.

 

In the top of the first, Ancilla grabbed the early lead, 1-0. The Charger attack began with a single from Renner. A groundout by Morgan Lippens then moved Renner from first to second. One out later, Henry singled, scoring Renner. The lead stayed with Ancilla College after the third, when it scored three runs on a three-run home run by Henry. Ancilla increased its lead with two runs in the fifth. A double by Henry ignited the offense, bringing home Lippens.

 

The second game saw seven-run explosion in the sixth inning from the Chargers to complete the sweep. Henry racked up four RBIs on two hits for Ancilla in another big game for her. Lauren Prohl recorded the win allowing just three runs over six innings with only one being earned. Prohl struck out three, walked two and gave up seven hits. Prohl and Renner each had two hits for the Chargers. Brooke Stout and Lippens both finished with two RBI.

 

Ancilla College jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first. A double by Henry, bringing home Lippens started the inning off. Ancilla College never trailed after scoring two runs in the third on two singles. The Chargers scored in the sixth on a walk by Kelsie West, a walk by Allena McElfresh, a two-run single by Stout, a two-run single by Lippens, and an error.

 

“It was a total team effort,” said Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “There were some definite spotlights but everyone contributed. That’s what this team needs to do to excel. Game two was a perfect example. We had twelve RBI from seven different people. I was very proud of their effort and the ability to get two on the road against a ranked team.”
