DONALDSON, IN – The Ancilla College softball team began their season in fine fashion, sweeping a double header from Wright State-Lake by scores of 4-2 and 10-2.

 

Lauren Prohl threw a complete game in game one, scattering seven hits, while striking out seven and allowing one earned run. Ancilla (2-0) made the most of their lone by Morgan Lippens, who reached base three times in the game. The Chargers walked twelve times in the game, including two by Lippens, Allena McElfresh, Prohl, and Kelsie West. Maggie Birch had Ancilla’s only RBI in game one.

 

Prohl also picked up the win in game two, throwing five innings, striking out five, and allowing one earned run. Birch put together a 4-4 performance, which included a RBI. Brittany Probasco and Melia Gonzalez added two hits each to the cause. McElfresh came in with Ancilla up 6-1 in the sixth and pitched to just four batters, allowing one unearned run. The Chargers then finished the game in the bottom of the sixth with the use of the eight run rule by plating three runs in that frame.

 

The Chargers never trailed at any time during the day.

 

The next game for Ancilla is Thursday, March 10 at Prairie State College. Game time is 3:00 p.m. Their next home game is Friday, March 11 against Franklin University’s JV. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
