Below results from Coyote Crossing in West Lafayette today – our first event – IHSAA practice started Friday last week for us.
Tons of potential in this group! We return only two top five players this year. Forming a lineup early in the season is a work in progress this week. Three factors loomed large today, a 6AM departure was tough on the body, nerves of the first event, combined with several girls playing varsity for the first time. I was pleased with our improvement within the round as nerves settled, the sun came out, the fog rolled away, swings became more and more confident, and the numbers got smaller 🙂
Senior Nicole Horvath stepped up today! Playing in her first varsity tournament she fired a team best nine hole score of 49 on her first nine (we all started on #10). Nicole’s round featured two birdies – her first on the Par 3 #13 – her second on the Par 4 #3.
Nicole and fellow senior Lauren Kolter both lead the team with 100’s today. Lauren improved 4 shots on the front (second nine). Junior Emily Cochern improved 7 shots on her second nine.
I was proud of all the girls today as they never gave up and kept positive the entire day! Our players gained valuable experience and toughness today.
The ladies are next in action Wednesday after school starting at 4pm in our own invitational at Pretty Lake Golf Club. This year’s invitational features 11 schools and is a 9 hole event. This event features a team setup with all 5 players playing as a group, scoring individually, however as a team the four best scores each hole determine the team aggregate total. Wednesday’s format is great for spectators as the entire team is together shot by shot and hole by hole. Both Varsity and JV will be in action Wednesday.
