An accident on US 17 in front of Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Plymouth Friday about 11:35 resulted in a Plymouth man being airlifted to Memorial hospital in South Bend.
Eugene Cowen, 68, was stopped on State Road 17 waiting to turn left into St. Joseph Regional Medical Center when his moped was struck from behind by a Chevrolet Cruze driven by Jacob Whaley, 24, of Plymouth who was traveling west on SR 17.
Cowen was unresponsive when emergency responders arrived on the scene. He was airlifted from the scene with head injuries.
State Road 17 was closed for 2 hours to allow for accident site investigation. The accident remains under investigation.
