“Marshall County has rich history in agriculture and a treasure grove of historic barns that dot the picturesque landscape.  The Barn Quilt Trail takes visitors and residents through country roads, combining an appreciation for agricultural  heritage, artistic talent and  local history.  It also helps showcase some of the many other attractions and venues throughout the county, including local shops, restaurants, and  farmers’ markets.

Heirloom quilt patterns are painted on sheets of wood ranging in size from 4 foot by 4 foot to 8 foot by 8 foot squares.  No two Barn Quilts are the same, just as traditional quilts vary in size, color, and style.  Many of the quilts patterns tell stories about family, history, and culture.

The Marshall County Barn Quilt is relevant to the Bicentennial because as anyone can attest, getting the word out about Indiana’s Bicentennial will be paramount to all our organizations’ success in the projects we are planning.  With approval of the Marshall County Barn Quilt Trail as a legacy project, we would like commemorate Indiana’s Bicentennial Celebration by erecting a Bicentennial Barn Quilt on a highly trafficked location to draw visitor attention to the Indiana Bicentennial.”
