City Attorney Sean Surrisi brought the Redevelopment Commission up to date on a proposed aquatic center for Plymouth.  The 10-12 million dollar project will be constructed immediately east of the LifePlex on property to be donated by the Holms.  The facility will be owned by Mr. Rick Miller, owner of the Zone.  Surrisi said the project has applied for a Regional Cities grant and in the near future the Redevelopment Commission will be asked to put the aquatic center on their project list for potential funding.   Ancilla College, Plymouth Schools, the City of Plymouth, and a local swim club will all be signing leases with Mr. Miller’s corporation for use of the facility.   The annual lease payments will not be a Redevelopment Commission expense, but will be  included in the City of Plymouth budget.   In addition to the aquatic center, the project includes both indoor and outdoor soccer fields and other athletic facilities on the west side of Pioneer Drive.   Commission Member Tyree said he had heard the project might generate about $88,000 in property taxes.  Surrisi said that was his understanding as well.

In other business, City Engineer Gaul reported on progress with a grant for improvements to Hoham Drive,  Brent Martin informed the Commission the sidewalk improvements downtown are complete and a final inspection would be occurring soon, and  MCEDC Executive Director Jerry Chavez reported there had been a lot of interest in the Shell Industrial Building in the last few weeks and that the City was negotiating with a developer to construct a project on the South Gateway site downtown.  Sean Surrisi said the Commission may need to create a new TIF District that would include this proposed South Gateway development.
