Weather Radio_1Severe weather season is here and that means it’s time to get prepared.  Severe storms have the potential to produce strong damaging winds, flash floods and tornados.  In order to help keep you and your family safe, the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency in partnership with Walgreen’s and the Marshall County Amateur Radio Club, will be participating in the NOAA Weather/All Hazards Alert Radio Programming Day.

The event will be held this Wednesday evening, April 13th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Walgreen’s Drug Store located at 2014 North Michigan Street in Plymouth.

These radios are designed to alert you to dangerous weather or other hazardous situations so that you can take the necessary emergency safety actions to protect you and your family.

NOAA Weather/All Hazard Alert Radio is a nationwide network of radio stations broadcasting continuous weather information directly from the National Weather Service office in Northern Indiana.  The National Weather Service broadcasts official Weather Service warnings, watches, forecasts and other hazard information 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Specific Area Message Encoding Technology (S.A.M.E.) allows the radio to be programmed to filter National Weather Service broadcasts of warnings and emergency alerts for a selected geographic area.

You may purchase a NOAA radio at our local Walgreen’s store, or bring one that you already own in to be programmed.  There is NO charge for this service.

If you would like additional information on severe weather preparedness or preparing for any other types of hazards that may occur in Marshall County, please contact the Marshall County Emergency Management Agency at 936-3740.
