DSC_0492 (640x418)OSSIAN, IN – Norwell High School senior Makayla Tipton recently signed her National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Letter of Intent to play softball for Ancilla College.

Tipton, a first baseman and outfielder, amassed a .344 batting average last season for the Sectional Champion Knights. She was second on the team in RBI (23) and doubles (3) while slugging at a .462 clip. As a freshman, she was a winner of the Hustle Award. Tipton is also a member of the Wallen Wildcats travel softball organization. She is involved in Campus Life and the Hope Missionary Youth Group. She also has interned with the second and fourth grade classes.

“I chose Ancilla because of the small class sizes and all the help that is offered throughout the campus,” said Tipton. “It seems like a home away from home. I am comfortable with the small campus and I am happy to hear how much the faculty and staff cares about the students. Softball has had a huge impact on my life. I have met so many people, have made a lot of friends, and can’t wait to meet my new team.”

“Makayla is a wonderful young lady who comes from a great family,” began Ancilla coach Scott Reese. “I knew she was a fit for our program from the first time that I met with her. Expectations are for her to step in right away and make an impact on and off the field for this team. I am excited that Makayla has decided to join the Ancilla softball family.”

Makayla is the daughter of Spencer and Jamie Tipton of Ossian and plans on majoring in Elementary Education while at Ancilla.
