Plymouth High School’s Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program held their second annual Initiation and Installation Ceremony on Monday, October 10 in the PHS cafeteria! The ceremony is held at the beginning of each school year to introduce the program’s new class officers officially to the JAG program.
JAG is a nonprofit youth development program dedicated to helping young people graduate from high school and make successful transitions to postsecondary education or meaningful employment.
This is the third year the JAG program has been offered at PHS, but it is the first year that WorkOne JAG Specialist Cari Sharpe has been in charge of the program.
Kelly Reinholt, a member of the PHS JAG advisory board congratulated Sharpe for continuing to grow the JAG program at Plymouth High School. “If I may speak for the JAG Advisory Board, it was an impressive night!”
The evening consisted of a lineup of guest speakers, which included one of WorkOne Regional JAG Program Managers Eliot Jeremiah, Ms. Sharpe, elected PHS JAG officers, and Logan Carroll.
Jeremiah spoke about the importance of building and maintaining good relationships in order to get and hold on to jobs in today’s workforce.
PHS students stood together in front of an audience, including some members of the PHS staff, to state their determination and to be the kind of employees and community members that make and keep Plymouth proud.
Sharpe said this event is one of the largest social professional events the program plans all school year and because the event is so important, attendance for all of her JAG students was made mandatory by Sharpe.
“I have a great bunch of students, if it weren’t for all their help, we couldn’t have pulled this event off. They worked many hours, and went way over and above to make sure things would go as smoothly as they did! They proved they really know how to work together as a team!”
She would like to thank everyone who attended this important evening with the JAG program and also thank the PHS staff and community members who donated new and gently used clothing apparel to the program. “The students were very excited to dress up in business professional attire. Because of the donations everyone was able to dress appropriately.” She also thanked Steve Thornton of Team Twisted Toys Extreme Rock Crawling Outfitters for sponsoring the class and paying for half of the students JAG t-shirts.
After the lineup of speakers concluded, dinner was served and students and guests were able to network and mingle.
