The 2016 boys golf NLC Conference tournament was held at McCormick Creek in Nappannee on Saturday. Hudson Yoder lead Plymouth in scoring with an excellent round of 74 – 2nd overall.  Micah Calhoun finished 77 – 7th overall.  Both players earned All-NLC distinction.

As a team we finished tied for 2nd in round robin play and placed fourth in the tournament. Combined this earned us a 3rd in the conference.
Our round got off to a promising start with several of the guys playing well out of the gate.  Micah Calhoun nearly made birdie on 1 then followed with three consecutive birdies and was 3 under after four holes!  Hudson Yoder played smart and steady all day, he carried an even par round into the final hole of the day. John Gerard had a 48 front nine and rebounded on the back improving eight shots firing a 40.  Colin Caine went 44 & 44, Grant Clady went 45 & 45.
We avenged a loss to Wawasee but allowed Warsaw to edge us out. Northwood played their best round of the year on their home course. Northridge stayed perfect in the NLC using the strength of their #1 player (Medalist on the day – 70 – 2 under par) to set the pace.
Our inability to finish at the end, something we did quite well earlier in the week, set us back.  Holes 17 and 18 hurt our team placing at a critical time in the round. Double bogeys on 17 & 18 by two different players, a triple bogey on 18 by another really stung. All day we had two contending top spot scores but couldn’t manage to get a third and fourth score to better our positioning on the team side.
A third place conference finish is the best we’ve had in over 10 seasons!  With several returning players for next year coupled with Plymouth hosting in 2017 the future looks bright.
Thanks as always to the parent support Saturday!  It was finally a good weather spectator type day.
