City NEwsThe Plymouth City Chambers were packed with concerned neighbors Tuesday night at Nicholas and Anneka Spaid from Bremen requested a variance of development standard to allow farming at 10714 Muckshaw Road.

The Spaids want purchase the 19 acre agricultural property owned by Mike and Joan Boys and zoned Suburban Residential. The issue is that the property hasn’t operated as a farm for years so the variance is needed to allow general farming including crops and animals.

Several neighbors voiced their concerns which included smells, pollution, property values and ground water contamination.

The Spaids told the crowd they plan of bring their 5 horses and may raise a couple freezer beef. When asked about other farm animals such as chickens and pig they said possibly for 4 H projects. They also said they plan on making improvements to the property including new fences for the pastures, clearing the fence rows and residing the old barn.

After additional discussion the Plymouth Board of Zoning Appeals unanimously granted a variance without specific limitations although no commercial production is allowed and animals are for personal use and enjoyment and 4H projects.
