The new Plymouth Board of Public Works and Safety will meet Monday evening beginning at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall.
The meeting begins with the reorganization of the board and setting meeting dates and times. The board is expected to award the 2016 fuel supplies bid and the street materials bid. Department heads will give their reports and a resolution adopting Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 Policy is up for consideration. The resolution is a simple compliance measure under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. City Attorney Sean Surrisi said, “That federal statute requires any recipient of federal funds to provide assurances that they will not discriminate.” At times, the City receives funds directly from the federal government or as a sub-recipient of federal funds disbursed through a state agency, such as INDOT. Surrisi said, “This year, INDOT is encouraging local public agencies that have not yet adopted Title VI policies to do so to move forward in good faith toward full compliance with the goals of the law and to remain in good standing for future INDOT funding.” This resolution would adopt such a policy, would appoint the City Attorney as the Title VI Coordinator, and would direct the future creation of a complaint procedure.
The Common Council will meet at 6:30. Their agenda also includes reorganization of the council and electing a Mayor Pro-tempore.
The council is expected to accept a donation of $344.01 from the Chamber of Commerce for landscaping and or flowers and consider on first reading an ordinance that will amend the referencing to a 5 member Common Council since the council has increased to 7 members due to the latest census numbers showing the City of Plymouth has a population over 10,000.
