US News Best SchoolsTwo area school were ranked by U.S: News & World Report as best high schools on their 2016 list. Plymouth High School ranked 15 and John Glenn High School came in at number 21.

U.S. News looks the academics of every school and how well they served all students.

Plymouth ranked 1350 nationally and John Glenn ranked 1554 on the national list.

PHS has approximately 1,111 students and 62 teachers making the student to teacher ratio 18:1. John Glenn has 625 students with 41 teachers or a student to teacher ratio of 15:1.

North Carolina based RTI International, a nonprofit social science research firm, teamed with U.S. News to complete the rankings.

RTI looked at how each high school serves all of their students, not just those college bound.

They started by reviewing 28,561 public high schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbus. New considerations for the 2016 list was the inclusion of graduation rates.

They began by looking at both reading and math results on each state’s proficiency tests.

They also reviewed on college-readiness performances on Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate test data.

AP is a College Board program that offers college-level courses within the high school curriculum.
